Umoja authentication will soon switch from Unite ID (formerly called EIDMS) to Microsoft Azure, to enable Single-Sign-On (SSO) with Office365, to enhance the security of the Umoja solution and improve the user experience.  Users who have signed in to Office365 or Umoja on their browsers will benefit from SSO, eliminating the need to login separately to these solutions.

The next phase of the Uniformed Capabilities Management (UCM) system, part of the Umoja Extension 2 portfolio, has been implemented with the introduction of: the Uniformed Strength Reporting (USR) module, the Conduct and Discipline Cases (CDC) module, and the Pending Adjustment module. 

The solution also includes enhanced Claims, Calculations and Payments modules, used to process personnel cost reimbursements.

The Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division (ERPSD) was established on 1 January 2021, marking a turning point in the journey to deliver Umoja to the global Secretariat.

Following the end of the Umoja project phase, the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division will continue to improve the deployed solutions.

Umoja and the Office of the Controller launched the Integrated Planning, Management and Reporting solution as part of Umoja Extension 2.

By integrating Umoja modules such as Strategic Management, Budget Formulation and Project System, the Integrated Planning, Management and Reporting solution offers a holistic, end-to-end solution to manage the lifecycle of UN programmes and projects.

On 29 July, a new Member States’ Contributions Portal was launched as part of the Umoja suite of applications.

The Member States’ Contributions Portal provides comprehensive and timely information about Member States’ contributions through a user-friendly interface that is also available on mobile devices.

On 29 May, the Umoja team - in close collaboration with the Office of Programme Planning, Finance and Budget in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance - deployed the Umoja Performance Dashboard for all entities across the UN Secretariat.

The Performance Dashboard is a key component of the Umoja Extension 2 Strategic Planning, Budgeting and Performance Management (SPPM) solution, combining strategic plan and programme performance with budget consumption and post incumbency data in a user-friendly interface.

Organizational performance monitoring is now available in Umoja for Regular Budget operations.

This module went live on 31 January 2020, allowing UN entities to record and monitor progress towards achieving results and completing deliverables defined in their programme plan, or the Annual Results Framework, as it is called in Umoja.

The new module is part of the Strategic Management Application (SMA), a key component of the Umoja Extension 2 “Strategic Planning, Budgeting and Performance Management solution”.

Umoja Mobile is now available to all UN Secretariat staff across the globe, including peacekeeping and special political missions, following the earlier deployments in 2019.  

Umoja Mobile delivers a personalized and simplified user experience. It can be used across all devices (mobile phones, tablets, notebooks and desktops).

Umoja Mobile allows staff to conduct the following functions without using Citrix (often referred to as the “Umoja Access Layer”):

In December, Umoja deployed the Extension 2 Implementing Partner Management/Grantor Management module to all Secretariat entities which work with implementing partners or issue grants to an entity.

This implementation followed successful deployments to UNMAS, UNEP, and UN-Habitat in December 2018, and OCHA in November 2019.

The latest deployment included about 30 entities, including 12 peacekeeping and special political missions.

Umoja offers a powerful platform for the Organization to manage all its resources with globally harmonized business processes.

In order to deliver a broad spectrum of functionalities and services, Umoja relies on a complex core infrastructure.

176 underlying instances of software, from SAP and other providers, make up the Umoja solution, running on 276 servers located in Valencia and Brindisi.

Umoja is accessed globally, anytime, from both inside and outside the UN network.
