April 2018 ESS/MSS Payroll Lock Schedule

Each month during payroll processing, the Umoja system undergoes a temporary payroll “freeze” for each payroll area. Staff members are grouped into payroll areas to allow payroll to be processed by specific groups in an orderly fashion.

While the payroll freeze is in effect, the Umoja Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS) functions will have limited availability as changes in the system may have a negative effect on the payroll process. Staff whose payroll area is 'locked' (see dates below) are requested to refrain from processing ANY transactions in ESS/MSS to avoid negative impacts on the payroll process.

During the freeze period, HR colleagues will not be able to undertake certain activities in the Umoja Enterprise Central Component (ECC) module for staff members. Similarly, ESS/MSS users will only have limited access to menu options in the portal.

Full functionality will be restored as soon as the monthly payroll has been completed.

For the month of April 2018, the following ESS/MSS freeze schedule will be in effect:

  • NY based General Service staff (L1 pay area): From Wednesday, 11 April at 5pm (NY time) to Tuesday, 17 April at 9am (NY time); 
  • International staff of Peacekeeping Missions and Special Political Missions on UNHQ payroll (IF pay area): From Friday, 13 April at 5pm (NY time) to Friday, 20 April at 9am (NY time); 
  • NY based Professional and higher category & other staff (I1, SS, SC and SW pay areas): From Monday, 16 April at 5pm (NY time) to Monday, 23 April at 9am (NY time).
  • UNOV and UNODC International and General Staff (I5 and L5 pay areas): From Wednesday, 11 April at 5pm (NY time) to Tuesday, 17 April at 9am (NY time).
