Each month during payroll processing, the Umoja system will undergo a temporary payroll “freeze” for each payroll area. Staff members are grouped into payroll areas to allow payroll to be processed by specific groups in an orderly fashion.

The Galileo Decommissioning Project (‘GDP’) is one of the key initiatives being implemented by the Department of Field Support this year. GDP was officially launched in December 2016as part of Phase 1 of Umoja Extension 2 (UE2), with the aim to assist the UN Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions to transit from their current inventory and fleet management system (Galileo), to the UN’s enterprise resource management system (Umoja). Once the project is deployed at the beginning of September 2017, the Missions will use Umoja to manage all logistic and service delivery operations.

The 2017 Annual Insurance Campaign - for staff around the world eligible for the UNHQ and UNOG-administered Health Insurance Programmes - will be held during the entire month of June 2017.  

The Annual Insurance Campaign is the yearly opportunity for those eligible for an insurance plan administered by UNHQ or UNOG to review and to make desired changes in accordance with plan rules.

It is highly recommended that staff members take this opportunity to carefully consider their family’s health insurance needs.

On 4 May 2017, Mr. Yukio Takasu, Under-Secretary-General for Management and Mr. Chandramouli Ramanathan, Umoja Project Director, briefed the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly on Umoja’s progress. Ms. Bettina Tucci Bartsiotas, Controller, joined them in responding to delegates’ questions, especially relating to qualitative improvements and cost efficiencies.

Galileo, the warehouse and inventory management system used by peacekeeping and special political missions, will be decommissioned and migrated to Umoja as of 1 September 2017, to complete the deployment of the Umoja Foundation supply chain functionalities.
